2. ACADEMIC CONFIGURATION OF THE EXECUTIVE MBA
Composition ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The Executive MBA is a Master’s consisting of 440 teaching hours split into 13 modules.
Approach ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
This Executive MBA is oriented towards the following objectives that determine its scope:
- Offer a global vision of Business Management.
- Give general overviews of the different specializations linked to the business world.
- Provide practical skills for Business Management.
- Set key executive concepts through our Management Keys Methodology.
- Promote the exchange of ideas and ignite debate between professionals from different countries and areas of specialization.
From the beginning of the course, students must understand the approach of this Executive Master. If you are oriented towards research to mainly academic treatment, or if you are interested in achieving a monographic and intensive level of specialization, we recommend you exploring another Master alternative.
However, if your orientation is reflected in the five points mentioned above, we believe that this Executive program will most likely meet your expectations.
It is Formato Educativo Business School priority to have motivated students that can relate professionally with the Master they have chosen. For this reason, students have up to one month, from the beginning, to unenroll free of charge.
Three weeks, corresponding the full completion of the first Module, is more than enough time to understand the program´s methodology and form an opinion.
Vision ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The Executive MBA aims to develop managers and business leaders’ management skills in order to provide them with a comprehensive understanding of their business, regardless of the student’s prior training or specialisation.
The educational principle which forms the base for the teaching approach is the view of learning as both a social and emotional experience. We learn through a mixture of interactions and mutual motivation and these learning characteristics must be taken into account, particularly with relation to the Executive programs, as is the case here.
The Executive MBA gives rise to this social and emotional interaction by way of academic and professional meetings between students from different countries across Latin America. The primary vehicle for this process is our Debate Forums
Business management and leadership skills come from every facet of the organisation, meaning an effective corporate vision is always the result of executives’ integral company-wide knowledge. That is why the Executive MBA methodology encourages meetings between directors of different areas of specialisation as a key element of gaining a comprehensive perspective. In other words, this Master’s not only seeks to bring together specialists in Marketing, Logistics, Finance or Business Administration, but also to integrate these different areas under one knowledge base.
Understanding this approach is crucial to grasping the Executive MBA methodology and, in the process, to gain one of its greatest assets: an all-encompassing corporate vision..
Formato Educativo Business School’s professors are highly specialised in this approach and its application to an online program which goes hand-in-hand with students’ professional activity.
For each edition of the MBA, in accordance with the group of students selected to undertake the course, professors will assess which academic approach will provide the most integral education.
The MBA working parameters are based on the following points, according to the criteria selected by teachers:
- Submission of Documents.
- Introductory documentation to the fundamental pillars of each Module, providing some reference documents.
- Specific documentation linked to each of the Management Keys: extracted from specialized texts, open texts on the Internet, enlightening illustrations, etc.
Each module’s documentation is provided via our online training platform (and the University of Cadiz portal, for one specific module). Achievement is assessed by way of conventional Assessments, and students’ participation in the different discussions (Forums).
This documentation aims to update the student's basic training, so that it can be applied into Management. Creating a link between the mentioned documentation and the Management Keys, as well as its incorporation in the Discussion Forums.
There are two documentation sources:
- Debate Forums.
Forums represent a bridge between specialist knowledge and a comprehensive vision of an organisation. They are designed with the aim of involving different areas and specialisations. All students must take part in the forums for each module. Achievement is assessed on the basis of attendance, participation and the quality of thereof.
- Case Studies.
A range of specific case studies available to view online have been selected by the Executive MBA Academic Board. Under the instruction of the Academic Coordinators and professors, the student will be tasked with analysing each assigned case and drawing conclusions in relation to the documentation studied on the program and information discussed in the debate forums, as well as their own professional experience.
Management Keys Methodology ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The Executive MBA works fundamentally through the Management Keys methodology. This is an academic model created by Formato Educativo Business School. It is increasingly relevant in the field of training because it allows content assimilation in a practical and effective way without requiring short-term mnemonic efforts from the student.
During all the Executive MBA´s modules, these business keys are analysed in depth, until students understand them, make them their own, memorize them and apply them to their specific professional environment.
Keys consists of:
- Several concepts that develop it.
- A title or motto that allows mnemonics.
- A photo or drawing to visually catch attention (not all).
- Support documentation.
The Academic approach is as follows:
- Key insertion and related documentation, by the Professor. Study time, interpretation, and free debate in the Forum.
- Redirection, comments and contributions, by the Coordinator.
- Deepening and second round of debate.
- Application of the key´s possibilities into the student's professional experience.
- General evaluation and closure by the Professor.
In each module´s Documentation Area, Keys will be uploaded regularly. Students should familiarize themselves with these as they will be the main subject of discussion in the Forums.
Students must work following these steps:
- Carefully read and assimilate each Key, as well as the supporting documentation.
- Discuss it jointly in the Forum provided for this purpose.
- Analyse and assimilate, on a personal level, the relationship between the key and their current professional performance.
- Actively participate in the different questions and reflections raised by the professor.
3. CERTIFICATES
All students who successfully complete every phase of the Executive MBA, will gain the following certificates:
- Executive MBA Specific Certificate, issued by Formato Educativo Business School, in collaboration with the University of Cadiz. The logos of the accreditation institutions will be featured on the certificate[1]:
[1] The presence of the University of Cadiz logo is subject to the student passing the Integrated Management Systems module. This certificate is not applicable to access doctorate-level studies at the University of Cadiz.
- Certificate of Achievement issued by The University of Cadiz for Integrated Management Systems Module.
- Additional recognition of Harvard ManageMentor©, for the satisfactory development of the corresponding course
- Accreditation of assistance to the On-Site Phase. This accreditation is exclusive for those attending (enrolled in the Semi-Presential Modality).
4. STUDENT’S ACADEMIC REQUIREMENTS
The Executive MBA is carried out on the basis of continuous evaluation in order to assess the student’s performance in the Master’s.
At the start of each module, the student will be provided with specific information regarding the parameters to be met in order to pass said module (obtaining a grade of 5 out of 10, or higher). These requirements, as laid out by those in charge of each module, along with the assessment process followed, are mandatory for all students. Failure to comply with them may lead to the student not being granted a grade for a module.
In general terms, students must meet the following requirements:
- Participate actively in conversations led by professors in the Debate Forums.
- Complete the different tests set by the professors, whether they be in the form of exams, or projects (group or individual).
- Any other academic activity which professors consider appropriate in line with the objectives of each module.
Each of the aforementioned points, is supervised by the Academic Coordination Department; meaning a student’s failure to complete one or more of these tasks, will result in a negative assessment or even, depending on the academic goals set out in the subject presentation, failing said module.
Students may fail (receive a grade lower than 5) up to two modules on the Executive MBA. In the event they fail more than two modules, they will be adjudged to have failed the Executive MBA in every respect.
The Academic Coordination Department will assess all cases in which the student fails to meet these requirements. The Committee’s decision will not be subject to appeal.
B. ADMINISTRATIVE ASPECTS
1. PAYMENT POLICY AND FUNDING
The student must respect the price and payment periods set out in their acceptance letter in order to guarantee their registration as part of the group they have joined, as well as their active participation in the academic process.
If the student is unable to meet the agreed payment schedule at any time, they must notify the Executive MBA Coordination Department, leaving enough time for their case to be assessed on an individual basis.
2. JUSTIFIED ALTERATIONS AND CHANGES
Cancellation options and justified changes are described, in detail, in the Enrollment Fees document. This document can be located in the "Help Desk" section of the virtual platform (white square).
Students have seven working days, after accessing the virtual platform, to communicate if they wish to cancellate their MBA. This must be done, in writing, to Formato Educativo´s Business School. Within this time margin, your reservation fee will be refunded, and your place will be assigned to the next candidate.
3. CANCELLATION, FAILURE AND RE-ENROLLMENT CLAUSES
3.1 Administrative Cancellation
In the event that a student enrolled on the Executive MBA fails to meet any payment terms set out in their Acceptance Letter, following prior notice (via email), the Administrative Coordination department will proceed to cancel said student’s participation in the Executive MBA.
Once the student has been notified of the cancellation, they will have 48 hours to complete payment of any outstanding fees in order to reactive their academic profile. If payment is not completed within said timeframe, the student will lose all rights to access the Master’s.
If the student makes outstanding payments after the aforementioned 48-hour deadline, or if they have been unable to complete any of the program evaluations during their time away from the course, they should contact the Program Coordination Department in order for them to explain the re-enrollment conditions which apply in each specific case, always in accordance with the following point (3.2).
3.2 Failure and Re-Enrollment
In order for the student to pass the Executive MBA and receive the corresponding certificates, they must pass all modules included on the Academic Program, ensuring they fail no more than two modules.
In the event that a student fails more than two modules, they will have failed the Master’s. Should they wish to complete it, they will have to pay the re-enrollment fees (please refer to the Enrollment Fees document, located in Help Desk) and join the following edition, completing the entire course once again, regardless of the fact they may have passed certain modules previously.
Students who have failed will be appropriately informed of both, the payment terms and fees due, as well as the dates the retake modules are to be carried out.
In the event that the student benefits from a Scholarship, this will only apply for the year in which they originally register for the Master’s. Should the student re-enroll for a subsequent edition, they must confirm whether or not it will continue to apply by contacting the Formato Educativo Business School Administration Department.
3.3 Integrated Management Systems Module (UCA)
This module is subject to specific re-enrollment details for any students who do not pass. Please refer to the Enrollment Fees document, located in Help Desk.
Any student who fails this module may still complete the Executive MBA and receive the corresponding certificate (provided they meet the rest of the academic requirements) but said certificate will not feature any reference to the participation of the University of Cadiz.
